Ramblers’ Rest Restaurant

Stylish 18th Birthday Celebration at The Ramblers Rest.

It was an honour to host a special 18th celebration at The Ramblers’ Rest  for two of my employees Chloe and Rebecca, along with their brother Alex – ‘Triplets!! It was the perfect venue for 25  family and close friends to enjoy  a private, relaxed, intimate dining experience,  all tailor made to suit.

The party enjoyed a 3 course dinner of  quality, fresh,  homecooked food, all locally sourced using our East Yorkshire Wolds’ suppliers. The Black Pudding Wellington and Salmon Fishcakes were a popular choice, along with Slow braised Lamb Shanks and Crispy Duck  with a Blackcurrant and Raisethorpe Sloe Gin Sauce. Chloe struggled to choose between her choice of  ’Gluten Free’ desserts, Creme Brule, Fresh Raspberry Pavlova, Chocolate Brandy Mousse!

It was great to be able to offer our luxury accommodation to the guests who had come  from afar, prolonging their Ramblers’ Rest experience with a comfortable nights stay in our beautiful rooms and a traditional Yorkshire breakfast to set them up for the day.

Congratulations, Chloe, Rebecca and Alex!!

The Queens Jubilee Celebrations at The Ramblers Rest

We have had a busy Bank holiday at The Ramblers Rest. Despite the disappointing weather people still turned out to enjoy the celebrations. Traditional afternoon tea proved popular, fresh sandwiches filled with local homecooked Roast Ham and Coronation Chicken and a wide selection of homemade cakes and pastries, our Cream and Strawberry Scones were a definite favourite, along with ‘Victoria Sandwich Cake’ and Sticky Orange Drizzle Cake.

We had a busy week in the accommodation with a variation of guests. Cyclists doing the Way of the Roses, walkers doing The Wolds Way long distance walk and then a lovely family here for the weekend to celebrate their daughters wedding at nearby Huggate church.

Looking forward to a busy Summer season. Lets hope the weather improves and everyone can enjoy the picturesque wolds walks, cycle routes and scenic drives in our area without getting wet! Then, come and indulge in a light lunch or afternoon tea sampling a Ramblers”‘ Rest Platter with our delicious Home cooked Ham and Selection of Cheeses, Chargrilled Black Pudding with Melted Stilton and Braised Red Cabbage or Fresh Salmon Pate garnished with Tiger Prawns and Smoked Salmon with a Sweet Chilli dressing. Finishing off with Bramble and Apple Pie with crumbly Shortcrust Pastry or a Fresh Cream Meringue……

Look forward to welcoming you and please feel free to call Angela on 01759 305220 for further info on The TeaRoom and Restaurant or Zoe on 01759 303292 for Accommodation.

St Valentines Night at The Ramblers’ Rest

Valentines night is filling up fast and we look forward to welcoming and spoiling all you romantic couples out there.

Indulge that special somebody in our cosy, romantic, candlelit surroundings, with the added temptation of an overnight stay in our Luxury Accommodation with Champagne Breakfast?

The Menu is available to view on our Valentines Page.

We had the cameras from Look North this week. Simon Spark came to The Ramblers’ Rest on a busy Monday lunchtime, interested to see the effect that  David Hockney our talented Wolds Artist, currently showing a  fabulous Art exhibition in London, will have on our area. Hockneys work displays the beautiful, open landscape we have around us and the general feeling would suggest that anyone visiting the exhibition will be keen to see it for real!

Our customers on Monday  were very accommodating to Simon, and in expressing their feelings to him it does become obvious how the stunning natural beauty of the Yorkshire Wolds really does draw people to the area be it walking, cycling or generally sightseeing.

My apologies for the lack of News!!!

The good news being that business is really good and I seem to have very little time to sit at my computer.

We  wish everyone a great 2012 and thankyou for your continued support and custom.

Angela, Jeremy,Zoe and Martyn.

Growing Routes enjoy Evening Dinner at The Ramblers’ Rest

The Dining Room at the Ramblers Rest

We had a very enjoyable evening at The Ramblers’ Rest when George Hamilton and  Dennis Jones from Growing Routes brought  their team for their belated Christmas get together and to present me with a Plaque from Growing Routes, illustrating their support of The Ramblers’ Rest in the development of The Tea Room and Restaurant and Quality B&B Accommodation.

‘The Ramblers’ Rest has been very fortunate to have had a great deal of support from Growing Routes throughout  its development,  from the very early stages of planning up to present day.We were introduced to George first, during the early days of our ‘dreams’ to expand,  and he then went on to  help, advise and prepare us for our Grant Application to Yorkshire Forward. (Growing Routes was founded by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, with the support of Yorkshire Forward to help new and existing farm/rural businesses.)

Successful with our application and building works well on the way, Growing Routes continued their support in the ‘form’ of Dennis Jones by offering us a Mentor to help with areas of our business that we felt would benefit from this service. Over the last year we have been extremely lucky to have had a fantastic mentor, Tracey Baty of three60  marketing and pr, based in Shiptonthorpe,  who has helped us in so many ways,  offering  knowledge and expertise and  always with bags of encouragement and enthusiasm  for what we want to achieve from The Ramblers’ Rest.

I would like to say a very big thankyou to George, Dennis and Tracey  and wish Growing Routes continued success  in providing the time to offer invaluable advice,  support and ecouragement to small rural businesses.

Happy New Year from all at The Ramblers’ Rest.

Angela, Jeremy, Martyn and Zoe would like to wish all our customers the very best for the New Year.

We have had a fantastic Christmas season in the New Ramblers, lots of successful Christmas parties, despite the horrible weather. Thank you to those who perservered with the snow and managed to get here!

The Bed and Breakfast is also going well, and we had a great New years Eve  in the restaurant, with our diners taking all four rooms as well. Thank you to Jim and Rach for booking the evening, it was a pleasure having you and hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

For anyone that has managed to get up to  Millington throughout the Winter weather, there has been no denying that there couldnt have been a more picturesque landscape up here in the  Yorkshire Wolds. My sister, Janet and brother in law David managed to capture it all on one of there walks around Millington.

Looking forward now to the Spring season, and welcoming back those put off by the weather. Good to see our cyclists back over the New Year weekend, though it became apparent that they had had to pick their routes very carefully, snow and frost still lying around to catch them out!!

I am starting on a new  Spring Evening Menu and a  Valentines Evening  Menu, the latter which should be available to view in the next couple of weeks. Bookings have already started  for February 14th, and any enquiries please do not hesitate to call us on 01759/305220.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Ramblers’ Rest extension and Luxury Accommodation completed!!

At last, building works have been completed,  our new facilities are up and running. Although we have introduced changes we very much hope that everyone who visited us this weekend liked  and enjoyed  our new  Ramblers’ Rest. With both Open Range fires blazing away, one in  the original Tea Room and the other in the extended Restaurant it was difficult to choose which room to dine in, and we felt happy that the added space made things more comfortable for a very busy weekend. It was great to see all our familiar faces back again be it on foot, cycling or by car.

We had a successful evening with the Restaurant, a private family birthday celebration, and had our first B&B booking on Sunday evening, a welcome stop for two people doing the Minster Way long distance walk.

Angela, Jeremy, Zoe and Martyn look forward to welcoming you to The Tea Room and Licensed Restaurant and perhaps you may consider a stay over in our luxury accommodation?

For further details please feel free to contact Angela 01759/305220 for restaurant and tea room information or Zoe 01759/303292  to find out more about our 4 B&B rooms.

Happy New Year to all our Ramblers’ Rest Customers.

Martyn , Zoe, Angela, Jeremy and family would like to wish everyone a happy New Year.  December has been a successful month with lots of Christmas party bookings – Thank you.

The snow did not cause too many problems, good walking but not ideal for cyclists (although there were two dare devils who stopped off for lunch when snow was still thick on the ground!!)

A price to pay for our wonderful Wolds location.

Zoe & girls found time to chill out (literally) in constructing this wonderful snow man.

Talking construction the snow has had some effect on building but things are still taking shape.  Paul, our builder is looking forward to some drier snow free weather.
