Ramblers’ Rest 2015!

It has been a great year at The Ramblers’ Rest, obviously a busy one as you can see by the date of the last news i posted!! Or is that a poor excuse?!

We were privaleged to host 3 lovely weddings this year. Richard and Fiona, (pictured!!) Simon and Beverley and Phil and Helen. They were all very special days and all very individual to each couple, and it was a great honour to be asked to be  part of such intimate occasions. We wish them all the very best for their future together. Though it is  lovely that we do see them all regularily whether it be in The Tea Room, Restaurant or an overnight stay!

We continue to do well as THE perfect venue for your private party dining. It is ideal for that special get together with family, friends and work colleagues, private, intimate and tailor made to your requirements.

Minimum of 10 people max of 25

Christmas parties start next week, so apologies if any one is offended when the Christmas decos are all up!

We are lucky in that we have facilities that attract a varied cross section of customer and the Tea Room has always been a hot spot for cyclists , but it really has  got busier and busier this year. Sundays especially are heaving with cycling clubs, families, and groups of  friends, all enjoying the Yorkshire Wolds with its challenging rides, either competitively or for more gentle relaxing exercise!

Our accommodation is continuing to attract walkers and cyclists doing the long distance walks and Way of the Roses cycle ride. All enjoying a well deserved overnight stay in our luxury facilities, to indulge and recharge batteries before the next days challenge. Being a perfect base here on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, we also attract visitors wanting to explore, within easy reach, the East Yorkshire coastline and The Yorkshire Moors or visit our local cities, historic York, Beverley, Hull etc…

Our staff are all very excited as The Christmas season begins, something about decorations, roaring log fires, Christmas Parties and endless Christmas music HO! HO! HO!

Talking Staff we  have had quite a change round this year. As regular customers will know we have lost three of our older girls to new careers or university, Charlotte, Emily and Ellie. We really miss them as they have been  with us for years, and feel they have been a big part of The Ramblers’ Rest.  Saying that,  they all  keep lending a hand when they are home and remain  keen supporters and tasters of The Ramblers’Rest menu!!! Charlotte is a family member and lives on the farm next door and has actually been a helping hand in the kitchen since she was 4 yrs old!!! Though living next door doesnt always have its advantages when we are very busy and shes on a day off – Hey Charlotte?!

May i just add that our new recruits  are doing a really great job and learning the ropes fast. Let’s hope they don’t end up quite as bonkers as the two in disguise above!!!

We have just a few dates left over Christmas, so if you’ve still not  found that special party venue for your celebrations then please give us a call! Contact Angela 01759 305220. You may want to prolong it with an overnight stay, and then enjoy a Winter walk in the beautiful Wolds countryside the next day, finishing off in The Tea Room next to a roaring log fire with one of our amazing Hot Chocolates and a homemade cake!  Please call Zoe for  Accommodation enquiries . 01759 303292.

Thank you to all our customers old and new, we have some very special customers and we thank you for your continued custom and support. Look forward to seeing you over the festive period! x

We Keep our Four Stars with Silver Award and Breakfast Award

A ‘very nice’ mystery visitor  last night turned out to be a Visit England Quality Assessor this morning! Presenting herself after having her breakfast we were very relieved to be told we had retained our 4 stars  with a Silver Award and kept our Breakfast Award too.

We have had a great Summer this year with all types of visitors using our accommodation, walkers doing The Wolds’ Way and Minster Way long distance walks, cyclists on The Way of The Roses cycle route and  general visitors here to enjoy the Yorkshire Wolds landscape. Millington is right on the route  and an ideal stop before the last  leg of the Way of the Roses and those who do choose our facilities really feel it is, quote ‘a real treat ‘ and  ‘ a well deserved night of luxury’ before they head off to Bridlington to complete the route. Abig thank you to all who have stayed.

The Tea Room has been busier than ever with more and more cyclists visiting the Yorkshire Wolds, the buzz that came from the Tour de France has been amazing and i am sure has encouraged more and more people to take up the sport.

The Private Party evening dining is still proving popular so bare us in mind when you need that special venue for a family celebration, or a get together with work colleagues or friends.

The Winter and Christmas menus are almost completed and will be appearing on the Website very soon. We are already getting lots of bookings for the festive season so please do call us  if you would like to book a christmas party with us? The Christmas evening dinner menu will be available throughout December. Please contact Angela on 01759 305220.

All visitors are obviously taking advantage of the wonderful Wolds landscape surrounding the picturesque wolds village of Millington.

Stylish 18th Birthday Celebration at The Ramblers Rest.

It was an honour to host a special 18th celebration at The Ramblers’ Rest  for two of my employees Chloe and Rebecca, along with their brother Alex – ‘Triplets!! It was the perfect venue for 25  family and close friends to enjoy  a private, relaxed, intimate dining experience,  all tailor made to suit.

The party enjoyed a 3 course dinner of  quality, fresh,  homecooked food, all locally sourced using our East Yorkshire Wolds’ suppliers. The Black Pudding Wellington and Salmon Fishcakes were a popular choice, along with Slow braised Lamb Shanks and Crispy Duck  with a Blackcurrant and Raisethorpe Sloe Gin Sauce. Chloe struggled to choose between her choice of  ‘Gluten Free’ desserts, Creme Brule, Fresh Raspberry Pavlova, Chocolate Brandy Mousse!

It was great to be able to offer our luxury accommodation to the guests who had come  from afar, prolonging their Ramblers’ Rest experience with a comfortable nights stay in our beautiful rooms and a traditional Yorkshire breakfast to set them up for the day.

Congratulations, Chloe, Rebecca and Alex!!

The Queens Jubilee Celebrations at The Ramblers Rest

We have had a busy Bank holiday at The Ramblers Rest. Despite the disappointing weather people still turned out to enjoy the celebrations. Traditional afternoon tea proved popular, fresh sandwiches filled with local homecooked Roast Ham and Coronation Chicken and a wide selection of homemade cakes and pastries, our Cream and Strawberry Scones were a definite favourite, along with ‘Victoria Sandwich Cake’ and Sticky Orange Drizzle Cake.

We had a busy week in the accommodation with a variation of guests. Cyclists doing the Way of the Roses, walkers doing The Wolds Way long distance walk and then a lovely family here for the weekend to celebrate their daughters wedding at nearby Huggate church.

Looking forward to a busy Summer season. Lets hope the weather improves and everyone can enjoy the picturesque wolds walks, cycle routes and scenic drives in our area without getting wet! Then, come and indulge in a light lunch or afternoon tea sampling a Ramblers”‘ Rest Platter with our delicious Home cooked Ham and Selection of Cheeses, Chargrilled Black Pudding with Melted Stilton and Braised Red Cabbage or Fresh Salmon Pate garnished with Tiger Prawns and Smoked Salmon with a Sweet Chilli dressing. Finishing off with Bramble and Apple Pie with crumbly Shortcrust Pastry or a Fresh Cream Meringue……

St Valentines Night at The Ramblers’ Rest

Valentines night is filling up fast and we look forward to welcoming and spoiling all you romantic couples out there.

Indulge that special somebody in our cosy, romantic, candlelit surroundings, with the added temptation of an overnight stay in our Luxury Accommodation with Champagne Breakfast?

The Menu is available to view on our Valentines Page.

We had the cameras from Look North this week. Simon Spark came to The Ramblers’ Rest on a busy Monday lunchtime, interested to see the effect that  David Hockney our talented Wolds Artist, currently showing a  fabulous Art exhibition in London, will have on our area. Hockneys work displays the beautiful, open landscape we have around us and the general feeling would suggest that anyone visiting the exhibition will be keen to see it for real!

Our customers on Monday  were very accommodating to Simon, and in expressing their feelings to him it does become obvious how the stunning natural beauty of the Yorkshire Wolds really does draw people to the area be it walking, cycling or generally sightseeing.

My apologies for the lack of News!!!

The good news being that business is really good and I seem to have very little time to sit at my computer.

We  wish everyone a great 2012 and thankyou for your continued support and custom.

Angela, Jeremy,Zoe and Martyn.

Visit Britain representative has overnight stay at Ramblers’ Rest!

Although we knew we were to expect a visit from Visit Britain to rate our accommodation, and despite a few ‘Do you think she is?’ sort of feelings, Zoe and I were still surprised and slightly ‘panicky’ when a lovely guest presented herself after breakfast to announce she was in fact doing our ratings. She had thoroughly enjoyed her stay at The Ramblers’ Rest and took time to sit down with us to discuss her stay and offer us some very useful advice. We are awaiting  an official report but we believe we are to be given a high 4 stars, which we are really pleased with.

The B&B Accommodation is going really well and we are getting a wide cross section of customer, walkers doing the Wolds and Minster Way walks , couples and families enjoying a weekend away and lots of cyclists doing the  ‘Way of the Roses’ cycle route. This is a long distance ‘coast to Coast’ cycle route of 170miles from Morcambe to Bridlington and  to our delight passes through the village of Millington. This  couple were setting off early in the morning with the sun brightly shining,  to continue the ride, having had a relaxing nights stay with us.

Another bank holiday is upon us.

We have a busy weekend ahead with private party restaurant bookings,  the B&B  rooms almost fully booked  and     hopefully   busy with customers enjoying the picturesque Wolds scenery and the  hospitality of  The Ramblers’ Rest tea  room.  Indulge in afternoon tea, with, for example, a Ramblers’ Rest Platter including home cooked honey roast ham,  home made Fresh Cream and Strawberry Scones, Meringues,  and Fresh Raspberry Bakewell Tart.

The Tea Room is open Thurs- Monday from 10.30am. We loook forward to welcoming you.
